10 Top Movies of 2010

2010 may not have started off as a particularly good year for movies but the initial disappointment was compensated by a few great titles in between and the last-quarter flurry of quality films. The highlights of 2010 include record breaking titles from the animated film industry and one of the highest publically rated movies of all time (Inception).

Christopher Nolan’s Inception has a long list of well-deserved awards and nominations. In a complex, engaging plot woven around the concept of invading, looting and altering the subconscious mind, viewers find themselves pondering, second-guessing and going “Whoa!” from the beginning to the very end of the film. The third installment in Pixar Animation Studios’ Toy Story series is undoubtedly not only the best of the lot, but also one of the best in animated film history. This creepy psychological thriller is based on the rivalry between a seasoned ballet dancer and her competition for a part in a production of Swan Lake, a tale that symbolizes the contrast between the White and Black Swan, innocence and sensuality. How to Train Your Dragon
Packed with entertaining action sequences and witty dialogue, DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon is the story of Hiccup, a young Viking misfit who, in pursuit of the Viking way, aims to join the traditional Dragon-hunt, only to befriend what would have been his first kill. In its list of numerous nominations, the film has a Golden Globe nomination for Best Animated Feature Film. IMDB rating: 8.2

Tangled is an amusing animated spin-off of the famous German fairy tale, Rapunzel. With over $260 million in expenses, the Walt Disney film has taken second place behind Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End in the list of most expensive films of all time. IMDB rating: 8.2

Adapted from the Marvel comics comic book series with the same title, Kick-ass offers a great concept nicely coupled with an appealing plot and entertaining action sequences.
